Recession tips: How to save on grocery shopping during recession:
Given the ongoing recession, this may be the right time to switch lifestyle habits and find ways to save more when shopping. Here are some recession tips that can help you cope with the current recession and put you on the right track to become a smart consumer.
Make a list of grocery items you need: Writing down a grocery list can help you avoid impulses and unnecessary purchases when shopping. Also, it can help you save time and save gas by not having to make additional trips to the grocery store and shopping centers.
Shop alone: Do not take your children or others with you when shopping. Leave them at home with your spouse or relatives. They often push you for unnecessary purchases. With the ongoing recession, you want to be as focused as possible when shopping. For some of us, it is not always easy to read through and follow a list, compare prices on each item, and make shopping decisions, while at the same having to keep an eye on children.
Forget about brands: If you are a loyal customer to a particular brand, this may be the time to reevaluate you loyalty. If it’s not based on quality or specific features you like in that brand, recession may be a good time to try other, cheaper alternatives.
Stick with what you know: Buying random food items or things you do not know about is sometimes fun. But often such items will end up not being used. If you want to try something new, do a Google or Yahoo search before spending on it.
Go shopping for grocery once a week: Try to reduce the number of times you go shopping for grocery. For one, it will save you on gas. Second, you buy less snacks and other unnecessary stuff. Consider creating a grocery trip schedule and try to stick to it. Given the recession, do not go shopping unless it is necessary.
Buy in bulks: Take advantage of good deals during the recession and stock up on items that do not spoil and do not need refrigeration, such as cereals, rice, beans, can food, pasta, toothpaste, shampoo, toilet paper, etc.
Do not go shopping on an empty stomach: Avoid shopping on empty stomach because you may end up buying more snacks and other unnecessary stuff than you actually need.
Compare prices: Recession or not, it is always wise to compare prices and have an idea of how much an average item costs. And it is not hard especially if you shop for grocery regularly.
Do not go overboard with savings: Having said all this, it’s probably not wise to go overboard with savings. Always consider your time cost.
