Recession tips: Save money on your pets expenses during the recession:

Given the ongoing recession, this may be a good time to look for ways to cut your pets
expenses. Here are a few suggestions to save money. Most of the suggestions here are
obvious if you are a pet owner, bur nevertheless, they can save you some money during
this recession:

  • Keep your pets in shape and healthy to avoid having to go through repeated vet
visits. This is especially true as pets get older. Provide healthy food and have them
run and exercise (or at least walk a couple of times during the day). Finally, use
preventives for fleas and heartworms and check their immunization regularly.

  • Do not buy unnecessary toys or accessories for your pets. If you’ve had your pet
for a long time, by now, you know what toys and accessories she likes to play with.
There is no reason to purchase additional toys every time you visit pet store.

  • Unless you are convinced you want your pets to have children, spay or neuter. You
are doing yourself and them a favor.

  • Shop around for a good vet, who provides quality care to your pet, but is also
    reasonable in fees and services.

  • When you visit a vet, avoid purchasing unnecessary and expensive treatments and
preventive medicines. Vets often suggest a slew of products and services that may
not really be necessary for your pet. Take time to think before saying yes. And this
includes saving money on unnecessary bathing and brushing and other groomings
that vets and pet stores offer. If possible, do them yourself at home.

  • If your pet is starting to get old and frail, consider buying pet insurance. Insurance
may not be the best option for all pet owners, but it’s definitely worth consideration.

The information here are only suggestions. In each case, you should consult a qualified
professional before making your decision.
